Alice Kones
Alice grew up in the Great Rift Valley of Kenya where girls were traditionally considered part of family property and were not supposed to go to school but were to be married off at a young age. Most families were often reluctant to offer girls the same educational opportunity that the boys receive.
She witnessed many girls and women succumb to cultural believes and practices in her community (such as women being sole providers of the families, walking long distance to fetch water, working in the farm, and cooking while carrying their babies on their backs), that marginalize and depress women and girls.
She vowed to change all these, she wanted a better life for herself and to be a voice of women and girls in her community. She knew education would be the only way out, that would offer many opportunities.
